“POLAR WONDERS: Photographs from the End of the Earth” is a celebration of the beauty and diversity of some of the most remote and fragile ecosystems on our planet.
Photographer Daisy Gilardini fell in love with Antarctica during her first trip there in 1997 and since spent most of her time photographing the Polar Regions. In13 years of explorations, Daisy has witnessed fast changes occurring in the polar areas due to increasing global warming. Her work shines with empathy as she takes pictures of friends, not just animals.
Her passion for the natural world has resulted in a lifelong commitment to promote conservation measures and inspire others to respect and preserve our planet.

The Lookout News
February 8, 2011
By Melonie Magruder
February 8, 2011 – The Santa Monica Library and the Office of Sustainability and the Environment joined forces last week with the Consulate General of Switzerland to present a program illustrating the wild beauty of our planet and the threat to its survival from rising oceans due to climate change.
“Think Swiss-Brainstorm the Future” was introduced by Deputy Sustainability Officer Shannon Parry, who touted the city’s ongoing progressive stance as a signatory to the Kyoto Protocol.
“We believe there is a profound relation between art, commerce, education and environmental protection,” Parry said. “What you are about to see illustrates that.”
With that, Swiss photographer Daisy Gilardini took the stage, Power Point in hand, to discuss her many years of travel in some of the world’s coldest regions and the opportunity to see colonies of wildlife most people will never experience.
